Lunging and In-Hand Work—GROUNDWORK

This class is for:

  • Young horses being prepared to ride.

  • Horses that are stiff and/or resistant.

  • Those who wish to learn how to bring the horse on the aids by educating, preparing, and strengthening the horse before mounting.

  • Those who wish to learn the lateral moves before being mounted.

  • Horses ready for more refinement and collection.

What this class will offer you and your horse:

  • Refinement of your aids and communication.

  • How to develop suppleness, engagement, and impulsion.

  • How to strengthen and supple the top-line and hindquarters of the horse through relaxation and forward movement.

  • How to develop and enhance the horse’s collection.

  • An understanding of the principles and qualities involved in lunging and in-hand work, which create balance and obedience in the horse as well as help the human and horse to have a better understanding of what is expected under saddle.

  • How to bring the horse onto the bit with softness and balance.

  • How to work the horse long and low, on the aids, and into collection at walk, trot, halt, and rein back—In Hand.

  • Learn the lateral movements of shoulder-in, haunches-in, and half-pass—In-Hand.
